Dubjam 2010: Lockdown

February 21, 2010  |  by Jordan  |  Automotive Events  |  No Comments

I didn’t realize that we were going to be parking inside the convention center for the show, I guess they didn’t have enough cars entered in the judging that they just let everyone in. The thing is, they failed to inform us that we weren’t allowed to leave until 9pm, unless it was for a medical emergency! We got in there at like 2, and it was awesome. There were all the cars at Dubjam, the aircooled busses across the street, and there was an aircooled rally going on or something too. There was even a skate jam going on which was insane! This kid, who couldn’t have been older than 14, did a mctwist on the extension of the miniramp! Anyway, it was a lot of fun but, around 6-7 everyone was getting restless. They refused to open the garage door for whatever reason to let us out, with their excuse being “we told you if you were coming in here you had to stay until 9pm” which I’m sure they did tell everyone, everyone that was in the judged class, not the rest of us who they let in because they didn’t have enough cars. People were getting really frustrated, revving their engines, yelling, honking their horns, and then when it came time to give out the awards, they couldn’t even find some of them! Hopefully next year they will get their act together.

With that said, there were awesome cars, in an awesome setting, and I think everyone had a good time (until the end).

My favorite:

I shot this car by itself, but still have to edit those pics.

Winter Jam – 2010

February 20, 2010  |  by ravi  |  Automotive Events  |  2 comments

As any big show (outside of town) – We all meet up and caravan down to the event. As usual I had no clue where we were going. Last year Winter Jam was lake side and completely outdoors, this year it was at the Ocean Center off A1A, about 10 minutes farther into Daytona. This year’s events were a lot closer together this year, however it was completely disorganized.

As soon as we arrived in Daytona everyone was trying to figure out how and who was loading into the Ocean Center – and what was going on. Last year the show was entirely outside and it was set up so much better. Everyone could come and go as they pleased there was a much bigger turn out of cars and people. There were cars everywhere, this year everything was confined to smaller areas and the interior of the convention center (minus the air-cooled show a block away and the few cars that were outside). All the Car Owners who entered got trapped inside the convention center and couldn’t leave until 9 o’clock (where as last year it was come and go as you pleased even if you were entered). Last year was free entry, this year was $17 per person (even if you entered $30exhibit/40showing your car – your passenger had to pay $17 to get in) – which was ABSOLUTELY ridiculous (not to mention parking). I think most people were a good bit disappointed this year with the set up. However since most people made the trip to Daytona – everyone still made the best of it. ( Ps: next year can we get a schedule of the bikini contest and when stuff is happening?! )

I would personally like to take a moment to thank the guys at Unitronic for answering all my Big Turbo Questions first hand and helping me along with their software.

I also would like to thank everyone from CFL Euro that met up at the mall for caravaning down – it’s always a good time on the road.

Browsing through Speed Hunters I saw this car and I was immediately taken back by the photo. I wasn’t sure if they photoshopped the flames blue or if they actually came out of the car that hot – but regardless it’s a beautiful capture. For more information or just a high res wallpaper provided by Fluid Motor Union check the links below:

EE Militia BBQ 2010

February 4, 2010  |  by Jordan  |  Automotive Events  |  No Comments

So I drove down to Ft. Lauderdale for the “VAG on the grass” bbq sponsored by EEMilitia.com last Sunday, and it was definitely worth the drive. There were upwards of 50 cars there coming and going throughout the day, and people were grilling, playing football, working on cars, etc. Super chill day. Took a bunch of pics which are on my flickr. I only edited these so far, but I have a couple more of the white gti, and I got some of Johnny Villan’s new wheel setup on his mini.

Moar pics from the bbq are on my flickr:

And yes I am going to fix the windshield on the sunset one.

While looking around my daily sites I came across some photos taken by a good friend of mine. Ian Kosiek (or Boosted20th, as people refer to him on the boards) has been in the Dub game for a long, long time and since he started he’s been getting a lot of attention. With everything from a full black R32 interior, shaved body, custom bumpers, super-stance, etc, etc, etc…he’s definitely doing his thing.

At the Simply Clean show, he mentioned that he’s still Static Dropped and hit an Armadillo which cracked his custom GLI lip. While looking through his Flickr I noticed that he swapped that one out for something a little more simple. Throughout the last year or so I’ve seen people get in to the “Flush” and “Stanced” scene knowing nothing about it. I’ve also seen a major transformation from Hondas with bodykits going to more of the JDM style, which is good news for everyone. People are finally realizing that less is more. Though you might say “But Ian, Your old lip made your front end lower”…he is ahead of the curve and it couldn’t look better.

2010 is the year of change …I see things changing from Air Suspension and laying frame to clean, descent static drops. Mark my words.

And a camera phone shot of the damage. RIP Armadillo.

Caution. Beware of Low.
