Kenny Leon takes his directing to new heights with Holler If Ya Hear Me — a musical inspired by the late great rapper Tupac Shakur. “The musical wouldn’t be a biography of Tupac’s life but rather an “unconditional love story,” bringing forth motifs of honor, betrayal and family that are often found in his lyrics.” Leon says.
Citing the artistic links between rap concerts and performance artistry, the highly anticipated Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film by Jay Z is finally here. Directed by Mark Romanek, the 10-minute film was cut down from 30 hours of footage, including six hours of Hov’s back-to-back live performance of the song in New York’s Pace Gallery. This past week I managed to check out the TOY BURST event presented by More Than Sunshine. The exhibit featured exclusive hand panited/molded vinyl toys, resin figures, and plush items.
