Santa Run 2012 was hosted by ITrack Motorsports at Atlanta Motorsports Park on December 2nd. AMP is a Motorsports Country Club, featuring a full road course and karting track with garages and shops on site. It’s located only around an hour outside of Atlanta and Road Atlanta, making it prefect location for automotive enthusiast.

This was the 5th annual Santa Run and provided a cheap track day for a good cause, helping collect toys for Toys for Tots. The event allowed drivers to enjoy the 2 mile road course, 16 different curves and as much as 100 feet of elevation changes. AMP Road Course features a F1 style lighting system, making a need for lesson corner workers and providing a very authentic feel.

The event it’s self had over 100 drivers, broken down into 6 run groups. 3 of more experience drivers and 3 of less experienced drivers, from Global Time Attack drivers all the way down to first track day.

The day overall was pretty uneventful with a HDPE format, that provided no more issues than a broken tail light and track being oil down. This however, gave us some time to go and enjoy the kart track and just hang around the track for a bit.

I got a chance to go for a ride in the SOHO Motorsports Turbo 350Z with driver Kevin Parlett. Overall I would have to say the track is an absolute blast, it seemed to be a roller coaster ride of up and down hills nearly the entire time. The front stretch you are diving down the hill into turn 1 and then start your climb back up the hill, dive back and just punch it down the hill again, climbing up the steepest of the elevation changes into a blind turn and then snaking your way back to the start finish line.

AMP currently does not have lighting and the last run was nearly the dark. Provided for some very interesting views of cold tires and headlights sliding around the course.

Special thanks to Matt and all the guys of ITrack Motorsports and sponsors for putting on a great event, AMP for hosting and having awesome spots open to photographers, and all the drivers for coming out and supporting Toys for Tots and the event raising nearly 2000 toys for the holidays. ITrack guys are going to be running affordable track days all over the south east this year, next one is at “The Firm” in Strake, FL March 10th.
